Preparing for LASIK

If you’re scheduled for LASIK surgery, the staff at Great Plains Eye Specialists in Rapid City will provide you with detailed instructions on how to prepare for your procedure.  Generally, this includes:

  • Contact lenses.  Typically, you’ll be instructed to stop wearing contact lenses for a period of time before your procedure.  The length of time will depend on the type of contact lenses you wear.  Rigid gas permeable lenses cause more corneal changes and you may be asked to stop wearing these two or more weeks before your procedure.
  • Anxiety.  If you feel anxious about your procedure, mention it to your surgeon.  Anti-anxiety medication may be available to help you relax before the procedure.  Even if it is last-minute, be sure to mention this to staff.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home.  Your vision will be blurry and you will need a ride.
  • Remove makeup.  The night before the procedure, be sure to remove all makeup and arrive the day of the procedure with a clean face.

Our expert staff will provide complete pre-op and post-op instructions.  If you have questions, please call our office.
